Below are some commonly-asked questions about our scholarship program. If you need
further information, please contact our scholarship coordinator.
What are the eligibility requirements for the scholarship?
Recipients are selected from applicants who meet eligibility requirements and have
permanent residence in a community served by a Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. The scholarship
can be used in any area of study in any level of the field of nursing.
What are the terms of the scholarship?
Scholarships of $1,000 each are annually awarded and checks will be made out to
the recipient’s school. The application deadline is January 31, 2013.
Where do I send or drop off my completed application?
Once you have filled out the application, completed the essay and have your two
letters of references, please return them to the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in your community.
If you are unsure of where this is, visit www.PenwellGabel.com and select the
city closest to your permanent residence. The address for the funeral home will
be listed on the home page.
When is the deadline for the application?
Your completed application must be dropped off at our funeral home or post-marked
by January 31, 2013.
How do I know if my permanent residence is in a community served
by a Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home?
Please visit www.PenwellGabel.com to see a list of the communities that our funeral
homes serve.
If your permanent address is not included within this list of communities,
you may still apply for the scholarship. The intent of our scholarship is to provide
financial support to students native to our local communities. While the residency
wording is loose, it is meant to provide local students with the greatest opportunity,
over more transient students who have moved to the area expressly to attend college.
The latter of which are more likely to return to their own region or move on to
another after graduation.
Other factors are weighed as well, such as GPA, a demonstrated
commitment to the field of nursing, etc. All factors are weighed, with residency
being only one.
When will the scholarship finalists be announced?
Scholarship finalists can be expected to be notified in March. All applicants will
receive a letter notifying them of their application’s status.
